I had a clothes press arrive in pieces once and UPS refused to pay the insurance claim, because they claimed it was improperly packed-I used the little bubble wrap instead of the big bubble wrap to wrap around the press (as well as a huge bag of UPS peanuts in a UPS box). Trust me-the condition that press was in, big bubble wrap would NOT have made a difference. If you pack something yourself instead of having a UPS store pack it, they always deny the claim. If you do a back search on UPS and insurance here on hostboard, you will find a post similar to this one. Homemommie, who had a trunk arrive damaged, just posted that her claim just got paid, and another member said that when UPS denied her claim she just kept fighting them til they finally paid also, so there is hope. I wish I had fought my claim more now.
Maybe call the better business bureau and see if there is anything they can do. USP has a pretty good racket going-taking money for insurance claims that they never pay. I refuse to ship with them anymore. I go Fedex on big items, even though it's much more inconvienent. Good luck.

UPS requires an incredible amount of "space" between the outside box and the inside contents, or your claim will be denied. You have to have inches (even 4"!) around everything, depending on the packing material used ( http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/res...nsulation.html )
My mom sent a piece of furniture across country, and was shocked at how much packaging the sender was going to use. His response to her was: "I've dealt with UPS."

When I've received damaged items, I've contacted the company who sent it . . . they are usually happy to replace for free and not deal with the delivery company (the real bummer is when they re-send it via the same shipper and with identical packaging! ). But I know that possibility is not one for eBay users. I hope you can get reimbursed by the sender if not the delivery service. Whatever happens, remember it is NOT your fault and you do deserve your money back from one or the other.
Good luck!

UPS is horrible to deal with - I had to fight to get paid for a EMPTY camcorder box they left on my front door step. The box was sent out at a certain weight and arrived EMPTY!! UPS tried telling me that someone came up to my door step and took the camcorder out of the box - yah right. They never should have left it at the front door and if someone was going to steal it off my front porch they would have taken then whole box not taken them time to open the box and take the camcorder out. They just did not want to admit that someone within UPS stole it. Took 2 months to get our money - I had to threaten legal action.

UPS can be a total pain. My mom is an expert at dealing with them though. We don't use them anymore except through AG, and the real sucess has come when we had AG issue the complaint for us. UPS is scared to lose such a big account. Frankly, I would contact eBay, and ask them to support you by publicly recommending FedEx and the USPS instead of UPS. Good luck! keep trying

Do NOT let it go! I had to fight tooth and nail to get my claim paid , but in the end the squeaky wheel gets the oil
I packaged the item *myslef* so I know that they *can* pay for a damaged item even if the person packages it themself.
Keep calling , keep demanding to speak to someone higher up, and make sure your seller is doing the same thing! As for those who have completely lost out.... What did the seller do? I was prepared to refund my buyer the money if ups completely fell through, as I think all sellers should.
Dont give up on it. It *can* work.
Sometimes they'll give in to you just to get you to go away LOL... I am still fighting to get my computer fixed and now EVERYONE in Best buy knows my name BUT they are now working with me too.
It pays to be vocal.

Is the problem at the corporate level or store level? I've never had any problems with UPS *fingers crossed*
